Generic name:Silver sulfadiazine.
INDICATIONS: Topical antimicrobial indicated as an adjunct in the prevention and treatment of sepsis in patients with burn injuries of second and third degree. Pharmacokinetics HUMAN Silver sulfadiazine has broad antimicrobial spectrum in over 600 crops of 22 pathogenic species. The most commonly found in microorganisms burns are: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Serratia, E. coli, Klebsiella, Candida albicans, Herellea, Mima, are sensitive to concentrations of 0.78 to 100 mg / ml. Many of the sensitive strains were resistant to other antibiotics such as penicillin, tetracycline, sulfa and nitrofurantoin. Metabolism: The use of silver sulfadiazine, showed that remains localized in almost all layers of the epidermis after the first hour in 81% of cases, and after 20 hours in 95% of cases was detected in the rest the dermis. In burn patients, peak blood levels occurred between three and seven days post-burn, for partial thickness burns and between the third and eleventh day in cases of total thickness. Maximum levels of silver sulfadiazine in urine occurred between the second and seventh day post-burn.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Not for use in late pregnancy or in infants during the first month of life.
PRECAUTIONS: In hepatic and / or renal elimination and drug decreases accumulation may occur, discontinuation of treatment should be weighed against the therapeutic benefit achieved.
